40 triumphant cyclists arrived at Fratton Park on Sunday 6th September having completed the 165 mile cycle ride to Bournemouth, Winchester and back to Portsmouth they had begun on Friday morning.
Pedal for Primus II was every bit as, if not more, challenging than the 2008 version with a stiff breeze competing with the riders for most of the first leg. Clifff Gollege who set the route estimated that the breeze increased the effort by 20% and many of the riders knew it by the end of the day. But, spirits undaunted, they set off again on the Saturday to travel a further 55 miles and the trip was finalised from Winchester to Portsmouth on Sunday. The team's return to Fratton Park coincided with a Faith & Football fun day at the club, so a large crowd, including many proud family members, was there to welcome back the tired riders who, despite all their exertions were in fine spirits as they crossed the line. The team is hoping to have raised in excess of £30,000 to help the work of the charity both at home and overseas. |
